Under general supervision of, and directly accountable to the Manager of Counseling Services: this position will focus on empowering Lake Superior State University students through short-term mental health counseling, psychoeducational outreach, and serve as a liaison between campus health partners, directly contributing to student success and navigating barriers. A critical aspect of this position is championing the well-being of students from underrepresented and under-resourced communities. This role will offer mental health consultation to Lake Superior State University faculty, staff, and students on behavioral health challenges, fostering a positive campus environment.
Master’s Degree in clinical social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling, or related field. Current professional license the State of Michigan or ability to obtain license shortly after hire. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated commitment to collaborative teamwork. Proficiency in basic computer skills, including ability to learn and navigate an Electronic Medical Record system.
Two or more years of experience providing mental health counseling, preferably with college-aged clients and/or in a university counseling center. Specialized education and training in brief therapy modalities. Experience facilitating trainings and workshops to a range of audiences. Demonstrated commitment to cultural proficiency and experience working with diverse individuals and groups.
Must have ability to hear a normal conversational voice and phone conversation, with or without a hearing aid; ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances; ability to read and to understand written and spoken language; ability to see with or without vision aid and to concentrate long hours on computer screen. Use of fine motor skills and dexterity to type and input computer information and for use of other office machines.
