Description As a Physical Education Teacher at LKA, you will play a vital role in promoting physical fitness, health, and character among our students. You will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive PE curriculum that caters to the needs and abilities of students from diverse backgrounds. This position requires a passion for physical fitness, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to supporting the mission and core values of Louisiana Key Academy (LKA).
Responsibilities
Operational Excellence: Partner with School Leadership to learn and maintain a deep understanding of dyslexia and how it affects students Develop and implement age-appropriate physical education lesson plans aligned with state standards and school curriculum objectives. Willing to learn and maintain a deep understanding of dyslexia and how it affects students Instruct students in various physical activities, including team sports, individual exercises, and recreational games, while emphasizing the importance of proper technique, safety, and sportsmanship. Assess student learning through ongoing formative assessments, skill demonstrations, and periodic evaluations to track progress and provide constructive feedback. Differentiate instruction to accommodate students with diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests, ensuring that all students have opportunities for success and growth. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students learn character, core values, feel motivated, supported, and encouraged to participate in physical activities, regardless of skill level or athletic background. Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and community stakeholders to promote physical fitness initiatives, organize school-wide events, and integrate health education concepts into the PE curriculum. Supervise students during physical education classes, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times, and enforce school core values, rules and behavior expectations consistently. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and performance, and communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and achievements. Athletics Program Support Collaborate with the Athletic Director to support the development, implementation, and growth of school athletic programs, student leadership initiatives, and character development activities.
Assist with recruiting and retaining student-athletes for school-sponsored athletic teams, camps, clinics, and extracurricular programs.
Support the recruitment and development of qualified coaches, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen the school's athletic offerings.
Serve as a coach, assistant coach, or athletic program support staff member for school-sponsored sports and activities, as assigned based on qualifications and program needs.
Attend required athletic meetings, practices, competitions, parent meetings, and special events that support the school's athletic mission.
Promote and model the school's core values, character development expectations, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership within both the physical education and athletic programs.
Assist with game-day operations, supervision, event management, and other athletics-related responsibilities as assigned.
Understand that athletic responsibilities may require participation outside of the regular instructional day, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and seasonal athletic events.
Coaching and athletic assignments may qualify for additional stipend compensation as determined by school leadership and available program funding
Requirements
Preferred Experience or Credentials Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field ( preferred) Prior experience working with children and adolescents in a school setting, preferably as a PE teacher or coach. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members. CPR/First Aid certification and knowledge of emergency procedures and safety protocols.
