The Academic Advisor is responsible for assisting in advising our students in our College of Nursing and Health Sciences, MSN and ABSN Nursing programs. Advising is a professional relationship marked by a series of purposeful interactions guided by theory and pedagogy, rooted in student learning outcomes. This position will work collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Student Success and Retention, and Student Life to ensure the highest quality of services are provided to all students, with particular attention to those in our MSN and ABSN degree programs in the CNHS. In addition, the Academic Advisor will lead the charge to increase the visibility, sensitivity, and inclusivity of students within their college and with the Rockhurst community. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Nursing and is a 12-month position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Meet with students who are admitted to the MSN & ABSN programs in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions, major requirements, course planning and registration, transfer credit evaluation/substitution, and program preparation. Maintain students’ academic files, including a record of the advising activity that takes place each visit. Facilitate students’ academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, specialized tutoring, extended or intensive assistance with career decisions, or similar needs. Coordinates and leads new student orientation sessions. Identify and collaborate with external entities for services, assistance, or information helpful to students including healthcare providers, social services agencies, grant institutions, etc. Serve as a member of the Student Success Network, providing outreach and support to designated students. Assist faculty with students of concern. Some travel, evenings, and weekends may be required.

Position
Requirements: 1+ years of experience in higher education. Demonstrated experience in case managing, advising, or student success efforts. A bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field is preferred. Knowledge of technology, especially accessibility tools and online student success software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
