Clinical Counselor Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Clinical Counselor Job Duties: Perform all the duties of a Professional Counselor related to direct and indirect mental health care of UW-Superior students according to the mission of Student Health and Counseling Services. The duties and responsibilities of this position will be conducted through the Student Health and Counseling Services. Consultation services to faculty and staff, and outreach activities performed by counselors are designed to enhance the personal, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment of students and other members of the campus community. Key Job Responsibilities: Evaluates mental and physical health and behavior and treatment readiness; and develops, coordinates, and disseminates treatment plans for clients and their families in collaboration with medical professionals Provides training and guidance to students or interns as needed Facilitates community education programs and/or support groups to help individuals and community members understand the needs and abilities of people with disabilities Recommends referrals, schedules logistics, and secures resources for clients to receive medical care or various program assistance to help clients live and work more independently Teaches clients and support systems about disorders and helps develop strategies to cope with mental and physical health and behavior problems Completes reports related to clinical treatment, patient planning, and/or medical care according to established policies and procedures Department: Student Health and Counseling Reports to: Director of Health, Counseling and Well-Being Full-Time: 100%, Academic Staff, 12-month ongoing appointment, one vacancy Additional duties specific to the position: Provide short-term personal, educational, and mental health counseling in accordance with departmental policies and counselor’s professional organization/ethical code. Provide consultant work with faculty, staff, and administration concerning student mental health needs and assist with staff development. Administer and interpret inventories and additional personality or diagnostic assessments as appropriate to clients in conjunction with individual and group counseling. Participate in crisis intervention, assessment, referral for students. Develop and provide various structured and unstructured open and closed groups for skill building, support, insight, and personal development of college students. Conduct outreach and training events for students and/or community groups as requested. Provide health outreach to campus organizations and classes to inform students about personal health development and mental health concerns. Provide workshops, class and residence hall presentations on a variety of mental health, suicide prevention and awareness and health/wellness related topics. Engage in professional development activities, such as membership in professional organizations, making presentations at conferences, and participating in joint and individual department staff meetings and staff development functions. Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act), FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and Wisconsin Law. Knowledge of mental health and wellness concepts, principles and practices. Ability to accurately administer assessments and provide correct follow-through. Proficient in DSM-V-TR diagnosis. Skilled in the provision of individual and group counseling techniques and treatment planning. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information and records. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Knowledge in working with issues related to alcohol and drug use, sexual assault, relationship violence, suicide prevention, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, multicultural counseling and academic success. Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field Independently licensed or license eligible in the state of Wisconsin as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by date of hire One year of experience providing therapy in a mental health setting The University of Wisconsin-Superior does not offer H-1B or other work authorization immigration sponsorship for this position.
