Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School is seeking a highly qualified, innovative, and student-focused 5th Grade Math & Science Teacher to provide rigorous instruction that prepares students for middle school success. This dual-role position is responsible for teaching Mathematics and Science to 5th-grade students while fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, scientific inquiry, and academic excellence. Mathematics Instruction Plan and deliver standards-aligned mathematics instruction based on Tennessee Academic Standards. Develop students' conceptual understanding, computational fluency, and problem-solving skills. Utilize multiple instructional strategies to address diverse learning styles and abilities. Incorporate real-world applications and mathematical reasoning into daily lessons. Prepare students for state and local assessments through rigorous instruction and targeted interventions. Science Instruction Develop and implement engaging, hands-on science lessons aligned with Tennessee Academic Standards. Foster inquiry-based learning through scientific investigation, experimentation, and discovery. Teach concepts related to life science, earth science, physical science, engineering, and technology. Promote critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific problem-solving. Incorporate STEM-based activities and technology into instruction when appropriate. Student Achievement and Assessment Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments. Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions. Develop intervention plans for students requiring additional academic support. Provide enrichment opportunities for advanced learners. Maintain accurate grade books, attendance records, and assessment documentation. Classroom Management Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment. Implement effective classroom management procedures that maximize instructional time. Promote positive student behavior and reinforce school-wide expectations. Foster a culture of accountability, responsibility, and mutual respect. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with grade-level teachers, interventionists, special education staff, and administrators to support student success. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, and professional development activities. Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and academic expectations. Conduct parent-teacher conferences and provide timely responses to parent inquiries. QualificationsQualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
