Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School is seeking an enthusiastic, highly effective, and student-centered 5th Grade ELA & Math Teacher to provide rigorous instruction in English Language Arts and Mathematics. This dual-role position is responsible for preparing students for academic success in middle school by developing strong literacy, writing, critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning skills. English Language Arts (ELA) Instruction Develop and implement standards-aligned lessons in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language. Teach students to analyze literary and informational texts using evidence-based strategies. Develop students' writing skills across multiple genres, including narrative, informational, and argumentative writing. Provide explicit instruction in grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and language conventions. Foster a love of reading through engaging literacy experiences and independent reading opportunities. Prepare students for state assessments through targeted instruction and skill development. Mathematics Instruction Plan and deliver standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with Tennessee Academic Standards. Develop students' mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and computational fluency. Utilize differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse student learning needs. Incorporate real-world applications and critical thinking opportunities into mathematics instruction. Monitor student mastery of mathematical concepts and provide interventions when necessary. Student Achievement and Assessment Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth. Utilize assessment data to drive instructional planning and decision-making. Develop intervention plans and enrichment opportunities based on student performance. Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress. Participate in Response to Intervention (RTI) and student support meetings as needed. Classroom Management Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment. Implement effective classroom management strategies that support student engagement and achievement. Promote positive student behavior and reinforce school-wide expectations. Create a classroom culture that encourages collaboration, perseverance, and academic excellence. Family and Community Engagement Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and academic expectations. Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain ongoing communication throughout the school year. Encourage family involvement in student learning and school activities. Respond promptly and professionally to parent inquiries. Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with grade-level teachers, interventionists, special education staff, and administrators to support student success. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and professional development opportunities. Support school-wide initiatives, academic programs, and extracurricular activities. Fulfill assigned supervisory responsibilities, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and special events. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Adhere to all school, state, and federal policies and procedures. QualificationsQualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, English, Literacy, Mathematics, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Licensure Valid Tennessee Teaching License with an appropriate Elementary Education endorsement.
