Provide academic and career advising services to students at the McPherson Center, including orientation and retention activities. Maintain resource materials, coordinate course schedules, and serve on college subcommittees.
A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a human services area. Experience in academic advising or working with students is preferred along with proficiency in basic office software.
Essential Functions - Provide academic advising services to students primarily through the McPherson Center. In cooperation with counseling staff, develop and coordinate career advising, orientation, and other appropriate activities. Provide information about the college and its programs to potential and current students. Implement retention procedures including a variety of intervention activities. Utilize multiple delivery systems including email, social media, online, and telephone advising. Maintain resource materials and records related to advising, including maintaining and expanding McPherson Center annualized course schedule. Assess students and potential students utilizing college adopted assessment tools. Verify student placements and enrollments. Serve on HutchCC subcommittees and/or task forces as assigned. Arrive on time for work and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position. Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures and practices. Secondary - Provide coordination assistance to the Outreach Center Coordinator. Participate as a member of the McPherson Center Team. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Outreach Center Coordinator with input from the Director of Advising and Career Development. QUALIFICATIONS (ESSENTIAL): Bachelor’s Degree required with a major in a human services area preferred. Experience working with students, academic advising, or related experience preferred. The ability to establish and maintain an effective work relationship with students, staff, and others. Computer literacy, including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software, is preferred. Physical requirements include excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills. The ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately. Visual acuity to view a computer terminal; Use appropriate judgment and apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; Light/Indoor work environment. Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position. Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation. The hourly wage is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. The employee in this position will work an average of 25 hours a week, not to exceed 29 hours a week on a regular basis. This is year around, at will and non-exempt position. This position is KPERS (Retirement Plan) eligible but does not qualify for additional benefits due to the part-time status. This position is located at the McPherson Center.
