Position Summary

The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) seeks an experienced School Psychologist for the 2026–2027 school year beginning August 1, 2026. The ideal candidate will support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development through assessment, consultation, and collaborative problem-solving. Working closely with faculty, administrators, families, and support staff, the School Psychologist will help foster an inclusive, nurturing, and developmentally responsive learning environment that promotes student well-being, resilience, and success.

  • Has experience reading, interpreting, and implementing psycho-educational reports
  • Has an awareness of parenting styles and ability to effectively respond to familial needs and concerns
  • Is familiar with use of classroom technologies and proficiency with learning management software
  • Demonstrates skills with regard to crisis intervention, suicide prevention and intervention
  • Values data and is skilled in gathering, analyzing, and sharing data
  • Familiar with formal and informal student assessments
  • Understands and appreciates needs of the whole child, particularly those 15 months through Grade 6
  • Understands, appreciates, and is sensitive to a diverse student and faculty group
  • Is strategic and can design effective plans and approaches
  • Has excellent executive functioning skills, takes initiative, and follows through in order to achieve goals
  • Demonstrates excellent writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrates superior organizational and interpersonal skills

Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a multi-tiered assessment strategy to help faculty identify students of need and create a plan that supports students in the least restrictive environment
  • Assists teachers in identifying students’ needs, reviewing/recommending psychological and cognitive testing, and providing support through in-house assessments and observation
  • Collaborates with the Elementary & Student Support Director and Student Support faculty to support the delivery of student support services aligned with the School’s mission and instructional goals
  • Supports the implementation, monitoring and writing of student goals, accommodations, and support plans in collaboration with faculty, specialists, and families
  • Maintains data records for each student on the Student Support roster, making relevant information regarding student learning profiles and accommodations available to faculty and staff, and ensures that written semester updates are provided to teachers and are regularly reviewed with faculty, parents and students as appropriate
  • Serves as a resource for faculty seeking to understand learning differences, executive function coaching, and cognitive skill building to implement best practices in teaching and learning
  • Contributes to professional development and implementation of best practices in teaching and learning
  • Supports the implementation of the MindUP curriculum and collaborates with faculty and student support staff to promote social-emotional learning, self-regulation, and student wellness across the school community
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students at MSR
  • Works as a liaison between other care providers
  • Supports processes related to outside providers serving students, including parent communication, documentation, scheduling coordination, and collaboration with administrators to ensure compliance with applicable procedures and requirements.
  • Attends parent-teacher conferences as needed, provides communication tools for parents in regard to their child's specific needs and, in partnership with faculty, responds to parent questions and concerns
  • Serves as Testing Coordinator for all school testing and assessments
  • Coordinates with Division Directors and the Technology Department on all aspects of standardized testing administration, including test-day scheduling, room setup, materials preparation, and proctor assignments
  • Collaborates with Director of Elementary & Student Support to prepare and train proctors, ensure testing accommodations are implemented appropriately, and support smooth and compliant test administration for all students
  • Partners with Carolina Prep’s School Counselor (or designated staff member) to facilitate the development of vertically integrated schoolwide student life and social-emotional curricula
  • Participates in the admissions process and provides guidance with regard to students who are neurodiverse or experience social emotional needs in the selection of students who are mission appropriate
  • Tracks trends in the educational field related to neurodiversity and attends appropriate professional development opportunities
  • Serve as a member of the Lower School Admin Team, DEI Committee, Admissions Committee, and Academic Council
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Physical Requirements and Work Environment School Psychologist can expect to

  • Function effectively in a fast-paced school environment, managing a wide variety of priorities, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Demonstrates warmth, patience, flexibility, and a genuine respect for young children
  • Work primarily in a traditional classroom environment, with daily periods of time outdoors
  • Supervise groups of students and regularly engage with parents, staff, and visitors
  • Perform physical tasks associated with classroom instruction and supervision, including occasionally lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
