Position Summary

The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) seeks an experienced Part-Time Permanent Substitute & After School Care Guide for the 2026–2027 school year beginning August 6, 2026. This ideal candidate will support classroom communities and after school care across age levels ranging from 15 months to 12 years old. The role requires flexibility in assisting Lead Guides and classroom teams in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate Montessori environment that fosters independence, curiosity, and respect for each child’s growth.

  • Overview Established in 1974, The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) & Carolina Preparatory Academy (Carolina Prep) is a vibrant and exceptional independent Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) World School institution in the Triangle area serving 400+ students aged 15 months through 18 years.

Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and uphold American Montessori Society (AMS) guidelines, professional standards, and ethical practices at all times
  • Ensure the physical, emotional, and social safety and well-being of all students across all assigned settings, including classrooms, after school care, and transitions between programs
  • Support the after school care program in collaboration with the Auxiliary Programs team, helping to create a safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environment for students ages 15 months–12 years
  • Prepare for and assist in multiple classroom environments as a Permanent Substitute, supporting continuity of learning across Toddler, Early Childhood, and Elementary classrooms as needed
  • Support the preparation, maintenance, and supervision of Montessori classroom environments, ensuring materials are orderly, complete, and developmentally appropriate
  • Assist in the implementation of established Montessori scope and sequence under the direction of Lead Guides across assigned classrooms
  • Follow all MSR health, safety, diapering, toileting, and hygiene policies with fidelity, maintaining clean and organized environments and proper documentation
  • Provide consistent supervision and guidance during work cycles, transitions, outdoor play, meals, rest periods, and after school care routines
  • Partner closely with Lead Guides and classroom teams by clearly understanding and fulfilling assigned responsibilities and maintaining open, respectful communication
  • Collaborate with colleagues, divisional teams, and interdisciplinary specialists to support student development and classroom functioning across programs
  • Support Student Support Services initiatives by assisting with observations, documentation, and implementation of recommended strategies
  • Assist with classroom observations, data collection, and preparation for developmental benchmarks as directed by Lead Guides
  • Maintain a receptive, reflective approach to feedback and contribute to a data-informed, growth-oriented classroom culture
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to support growth in Montessori philosophy, child development, and best practices across age levels
  • Attend all required faculty meetings, team meetings, and professional development sessions
  • Represent the School positively and professionally in all interactions with students, families, colleagues, and the broader community
  • Support home/school communication by reinforcing consistent, respectful interactions with families through school-sanctioned communication channels
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records, materials inventory, and documentation systems (including Transparent Classroom, when applicable)
  • Support school community events and parent education opportunities, including occasional evening hours as needed
  • Commit to supporting school programming, which may include occasional participation in seasonal programs or enrichment weeks as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Lower School Director and Head of School
  • Physical Requirements and Work Environment Permanent Substitute Guides can expect to:
  • Function effectively in a fast-paced school environment, managing a wide variety of priorities, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Demonstrates warmth, patience, flexibility, and a genuine respect for young children
  • Work primarily in a traditional classroom environment, with daily periods of time outdoors
  • Supervise groups of students and regularly engage with parents, staff, and visitors
  • Perform physical tasks associated with classroom instruction and supervision, including occasionally lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
