As the After School Track & Field Instructor (Temporary), you'll introduce elementary and middle school students to the excitement of track and field while helping them build confidence, develop athletic skills, and experience the power of teamwork, perseverance, and personal achievement. Through engaging practices, skill development, conditioning, and positive coaching, you'll create an environment where every participant is encouraged to challenge themselves, celebrate progress, and enjoy being active. Whether a student is trying track and field for the first time or developing existing skills, you'll help create an experience that inspires a lifelong love of movement and healthy living. This is a temporary, seasonal, grant-funded position supporting a school-year track and field initiative from August 1 through October 31. How You'll Make an Impact Lead engaging track and field practices that teach fundamental skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition. Create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every participant feels supported and motivated to achieve their personal best. Plan age appropriate activities that build endurance, coordination, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity. Organize practices, skill challenges, meets, and other activities that celebrate individual growth and team success. Build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and YMCA Team Members while ensuring a safe and high quality program experience. Schedule This is a temporary, seasonal position expected to run August 1 through October 31 during the school year. Instructors typically work 2 to 4 days per week, averaging 6 to 10 hours per week, with shifts scheduled on school days between approximately 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Paid training and professional development are provided throughout the season. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications Eighteen (18) years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience coaching, teaching, or leading youth track and field or related sports. Knowledge of track and field events, rules, techniques, conditioning, and safe coaching practices. Experience working with elementary and middle school youth preferred. Strong communication skills, emotional maturity, and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with youth and families. Current EMSA First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certifications, or the ability to obtain required certifications as a condition of employment. Completion of required health screenings and background clearances prior to working with participants.
