Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to pass a Level 2 background check. Prior experience in school safety or youth-serving environments is preferred.

POSITION OVERVIEW The Campus Monitor supports the safety, security, and campus compliance of the AWA Broward Afterschool program at Deerfield Beach Elementary School. This role is funded by CSC in accordance with Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) policy requirements for school-based afterschool programs and is a required position under the BASCC Quality Standards. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, the Campus Monitor works alongside the program team to maintain a secure campus environment throughout all program hours. This role is ideal for someone who exercises good judgment, maintains a calm and professional presence, and is committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for youth.
WHAT YOU'LL DO Campus Safety & Security Be on site 15 minutes before program start and remain until the last student is dismissed Actively patrol the full campus throughout program hours—indoor areas, hallways, entrances, outdoor play areas, and exterior gates Monitor and secure the designated point of entry; ensure no unauthorized individuals access campus during program hours Identify and report safety hazards, unauthorized individuals, or policy violations to the Program Manager and school administration Wear a clearly identifiable Campus Monitor vest or shirt and carry an operational two-way radio at all times
Supervision Support & Student Movement Monitor participant movement and transitions across campus — arrival, activity changes, outdoor time, and dismissal Support program staff in maintaining safe, orderly transitions; flag concerns about student movement or unsafe behavior Support arrival and dismissal by monitoring campus perimeter and access points (does not include student sign-in/sign-out)
Facility, Environmental Safety & Compliance Support daily safety checks of outdoor play areas and campus grounds; report hazards or maintenance needs Confirm custodial closets are locked and hazardous materials are secured throughout program hours Complete required safety documentation and support incident reporting per BCPS policy Support fire, lockdown, tornado, and evacuation drills; know all emergency procedures for the site Complete all mandatory Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness training required for the role
Professional Conduct Serve as a visible, approachable, professional presence on campus throughout program hours Interact respectfully with students, families, staff, school administration, and visitors
WHAT YOU BRING High school diploma or GED required Minimum age of 18 Meets all Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) requirements for campus monitor personnel Ability to pass a Level 2 background check and meet all BCPS and BASCC screening requirements before the first day of work Prior experience in school safety, campus supervision, security, or a youth-serving environment preferred Ability to maintain calm, professional authority in safety or behavioral situations involving youth Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full program schedule throughout the school year Ability to read, write, and communicate in English sufficient to communicate with staff and families; bilingual ability in Spanish or Creole preferred Strong observational skills and attention to campus environment and site activity Ability to patrol and monitor an entire school campus on foot in varying weather conditions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This role is performed both indoors and outdoors, with regular exposure to extreme temperatures, sunlight, noise, dirt, dust, and uneven surfaces. Employees must be able to lift, carry, and/or push up to 50 lbs., and frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The role also requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively to respond to safety situations and interact with students, families, and staff in person and by phone.
