Demonstrate knowledge of NYS Learning Standards through the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans that address the individual goals of students and strengthen the continuity of learning experiences between home and school Design an adaptive physical education (APE) program that includes aquatic programming in collaboration with transdisciplinary team (education staff, related service staff, etc.) that meets the IEP goals of each child Integrate NYS Learning Standards into effective goals and practices that result in positive child outcomes Participate in meetings concerning the needs of each child as related to his/her APE program Create an organized and safe learning environment to ensure that APE materials and equipment are maintained in good condition, properly inventoried and used according to the physical abilities of each child Lead team of paraprofessional staff in carrying out lesson plans Adhere to daily school schedule at both the Yonkers and White Plains campuses including 2 weekly session of 2 hours each between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm in White Plains Maintain accurate record keeping and IEP Goal tracking documentation as required by SED and Coleman School Policy for quality assurance and accountability Act as substitute in the classroom when vacancy or absence requires Actively participate in the creation and implementation of an individual and school-wide Professional Development Plan that inspires personal growth, informs teaching practices and promotes understanding of the NYS Standards Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other John A. Coleman policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with students and their families Perform other tasks to support the operations of the school as assigned by Administration
Education Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education with a 12-18 credit concentration in Adapted Physical Education preferred; Master’s Degree in Adapted Physical Education, preferred NYS certification in Physical Education Experience Complete required practicum in Physical Education; concentration in Adapted Physical Education preferred Minimum of one-year experience in related setting working with children with multiple disabilities preferred Employee Requirements: Strong communication skills (verbal and written); good problem-solving skills; strong organizational skills; ability to relate to families and work collaboratively with other agency representatives Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this School, which includes a medical and physical examination Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the children’s blood/body fluids Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children, if necessary Working Conditions: Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area Will be subject to frequent interruptions May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
