  • SUMMARY: The Department of English, World Languages, and Cultures Studies at Bethune-Cookman University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish position. The successful candidate will teach first-year Spanish courses primarily and upper-division culture and literature courses based on their credentials and enrollment needs. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Excellence in teaching and a commitment to scholarship.
  • The successful candidate will teach four courses each semester.
  • Online teaching experience is a plus but is not required.
  • The successful candidate will maintain 10 regularly scheduled office hours on a weekly basis.
  • The successful candidate is expected to contribute to departmental service

Education and experience

  • Qualifications include a Ph.D. degree in Spanish, Latin American or Hispanic literature, or a related field
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English

Preferred skills, experience, education, and experience

• Applicants should also have at least one year of experience teaching Spanish at a college or university and have experience using or integrating learning management tools such as Canvas. Experience in teaching historically disadvantaged populations and first-generation students is desired.

Environmental/Physical requirements

  • Working environment is a normal business office setting.
  • Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
  • Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
