The primary responsibility is to assist the special education teacher by working with individual students or small groups. This assistance aims to help students achieve skill levels appropriate for their capabilities.

The role requires assisting special education teachers with students to meet skill level goals commensurate with their abilities. Employment terms specify 7 hours per day for 9 months per year.
