The advisor provides academic and administrative support to PhD students in the Social Sciences, focusing on curriculum guidance and degree requirements. They also manage recruitment strategies, admissions, and the coordination of student events such as orientation and commencement.
A bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of directly related experience in student services and programming are required. A master's or doctorate degree and experience with graduate-level academic advising are preferred.
The Student Services Advisor II in Social Sciences will support the hub, which may include but will not be limited to the following: Assists in the planning and execution of recruitment strategies and admissions for major PhD programs in academic units across the hub Advises on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, graduation counseling and clearance Strongly collaborates with Dornsife Undergraduate Education on Teaching Assistant (TA) slots and assignments Assists in the preparation or update of bulletins, newsletters, handbooks, guides, fact sheets, brochures and other communication pieces Plans and coordinates student events including commencement, orientation, receptions, and award ceremonies Evaluates student problems, academic, administrative or personal, and refers student to appropriate student services office for additional counseling Maintains currency on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admissions, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, petitions and other student services. Other duties as assigned
Experience in higher education, specifically working with student support services Experience in academic advising, preferably with graduate level students Strong communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of student development theories and academic policies Experience with data analysis and assessment to inform student support initiatives Salary range: The hourly rate range for this position is $34.35 - $39.03.
