The Assistant Coach will facilitate Congressional Debate practice sessions, provide constructive feedback, and chaperone students at competitive debate tournaments. They will also hold weekly office hours to help students refine their public speaking techniques and performance skills.
Candidates should have experience as a competitive debater and possess strong communication and pedagogical skills. A commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and building supportive relationships with students is essential.
Durham Academy is an independent day school located in Durham, North Carolina educating students in preschool through grade 12.
DA Speech and Debate is a full-service program, working with students from 5th to 12th grade in one or more of the following areas: Lincoln-Douglas debate, Public Forum debate, Congressional Debate, interpretation events, platform events, and/or limited prep events.
The Assistant Coach for Congressional Debate is pivotal in preparing our students for competitive debate competitions while honing their communication and critical thinking skills. The Assistant Coach for Congressional Debate will work closely with our Director and Assistant Director of Speech and Debate, by facilitating practice sessions, offering constructive feedback, traveling to competitions, and creating a supportive learning environment for our students.
We are seeking candidates local to the Raleigh-Durham area, but are open to welcoming a virtual coach to join the coaching staff.
