The Associate Coach provides basketball instruction and off-court facilitation to support youth development and program flow. Responsibilities include managing drills, tracking attendance, and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for participants.
Candidates should have basketball playing or coaching experience and the ability to work positively with youth in a fast-paced environment. Mandatory state and federal background clearances, including CPR/AED and Concussion training, are required.
The Associate Coach serves as a year-round basketball coach and off-court facilitator supporting multiple PYB Basketball Programming areas. Associate Coaches assist with basketball instruction, participant supervision, operations, off-court development, and overall program flow across multiple PYB programs. Core Responsibilities Assist with Academy practices and training sessions Support basketball instruction, player supervision, and participant engagement Help facilitate drills, stations, and skill development activities Support off-court classroom sessions and development programming Assist with setup, breakdown, attendance tracking, and equipment organization Support participant accountability, culture, and behavior expectations Reinforce PYB coaching standards and expectations Support game-day and tournament operations Assist with participant recruitment and family engagement efforts Support LeagueApps attendance tracking and participant management Utilize PYB operational systems including LeagueApps, Paycom, evaluations, practice planning, film review, and other assigned systems Assist with transportation documentation and van logs when applicable Maintain professionalism and represent PYB positively within the community Float daily across multiple basketball programming areas as assigned HR / Implementation Notes Confirm year-round budget line and weekly hour expectations before posting Clarify site assignment/floating expectations during interview process QualificationsRequired Qualifications Basketball playing and/or coaching experience preferred Ability to work positively with youth athletes Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to work within a fast-paced multi-program environment Reliable attendance and professionalism Ability to complete all required background clearances Clearances All staff members must possess or obtain the following state and federal clearances prior to training and before engaging in any hands-on activities with young people participating in Philadelphia Youth Basketball programs. Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check (SP4 164) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Form (CY113) Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Background Check (Criminal History Report), if applicable.
