Requirements summary

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher serves as a replacement for a vacant teacher position for no more than 90 days. You will manage student learning and behavior in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the agency.
EnCircle operates Minnick Schools in Roanoke, Harrisonburg, Wytheville, Wise, and Bristol. We serve students ages 5 to 22 who need extra support to find success in the classroom.

Minimum education, training, requirements and prerequisites
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Eligible for a Virginia teaching license to teach the subject/grade of the long-term assignment preferred.
General knowledge of student instruction and management practices, procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of Minnick School rules and procedures.
Ability to guide, direct, teach and control students, to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
Ability to acquire First Aid and CPR Certification.
Ability to complete all mandated trainings prior to working in the classroom, including training in de-escalation and physical management of students (Safety Care).
Ability to learn proprietary software.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and administration.
Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Valid Virginia Drivers’ License, satisfactory driving record, and proof of insurance if an assigned driver.

DRIVING SPECIFIC (The following list may or may not be all inclusive at time of posting):
Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years:
Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
Driving on a suspended or revoked license
Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
Injuring a person while racing - felony.
Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
Emergency vehicle violation - death.
Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
Blocking access to the service facility.
Attempting to elude police.
Operating an unsafe vehicle.
Vulnerable Road User – Death.
Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:
Passing a stopped school bus.
Careless driving.
Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.
Specific duties and responsibilities
Essential Functions
May be required to perform any of the following duties:
Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and agency policies.
Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
Provides an effective program of instruction to include instructional skills, knowledge of child growth and development.
Knowledge and use of materials and resources in accordance with the adopted curriculum and consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Reports all student injuries, accidents and illnesses to the administration immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
Organizes students for effective instruction.
Maintains students’ coursework, data, and other student documentation in accordance with school and agency policies.
During periods of critical personnel shortage or other emergency, shall temporarily perform any duties, as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
