Job Description

A Lower School P.E. Teacher at Forsyth Country Day School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students in his or her classroom, utilizing the school’s instructional program. The teacher works to create meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences in order to continue to build strong foundational skills for lifelong learning. The ideal candidate will be a skilled, dynamic instructor with experience teaching Physical Education to elementary-aged students. Candidates should be comfortable providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students, be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues on a regular basis, and share information relative to student progress. The candidate should be enthusiastic about participating in curriculum collaboration with teammates and specialists. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate commitment to growing and learning through professional development courses and workshops. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates a strong understanding of physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing designated curriculum standards. Utilizes a range of data sources to drive instruction and set goals for students. This includes assessing and reporting on student learning, including formative and benchmark assessments, progress reports, and parent conferences. Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, attitudes, and backgrounds. Supports students' social-emotional learning in collaboration with other team members and faculty. Builds strong partnerships with families and communicates regularly about student learning and classroom events. Identifies students’ needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping support students’ health, behavioral, and learning needs. Participates in all divisional, team, department, and faculty meetings. Maintains a positive attitude and conducts oneself professionally with respect to students, faculty, parents, and the community. Vigorously pursues knowledge of best teaching practices and of ages of students taught. Set up and take down gym space and equipment as needed for P.E. classes. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or Health Education Degree program should include a state-approved educator preparation program covering pedagogy, classroom management, and adapted PE for students with disabilities. 3 or more years of classroom teaching experience, preferred Teaching license preferred REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to positively contribute to a team environment and to our school community A commitment to work collaboratively and innovatively with colleagues Knowledge of and ability to support students’ social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development Ability to learn and use relevant technology Interested in seeking opportunities to learn and reflect Demonstrated effective classroom management skills Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities Effective problem-solving and analytical ability Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong organizational skills Ability to meet deadlines Ability to maintain a healthy sense of humor ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Regularly required to walk, including across uneven ground, stand, balance, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Must be able to occasionally push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time Must have hand and foot dexterity to demonstrate skills. Must be able to operate a computer and have basic knowledge of Google Workspace Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed Must be able to utilize oral and written communication skills effectively Will likely be exposed to a variety of childhood illnesses
