Kansas Health Science University is seeking individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds to serve as Simulated Patients (SPs) for our osteopathic medical students. Simulated Patients portray patients or individuals in various medical, behavioral, and emotional realistic healthcare scenarios, supporting future physicians to develop their clinical skills, communication techniques, professionalism, and cultural competence in a safe learning environment. We provide all the necessary training. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Simulate individuals in both clinical and non-clinical scenarios for teaching and/or assessment activities Simulate all aspects of a scripted scenario in a standardized, accurate, realistic manner, maintaining the specified character, medical history, personality, and emotional structure. Be willing to be comfortable in simulated clinical environments, which includes wearing a hospital gown, being audio/videotaped, and undergoing repeated physical examination maneuvers by learners. Adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment Recall learner’s actions during encounters accurately and complete computerized checklist/assessment tools consistently and as trained by Simulated Patient Educator. Communicate with students in a straightforward and positive way Actively participate in all assigned case and compliance trainings and implement ongoing coaching from the Standardized Patient Educator and/or Simulation Center Director, Faculty. Maintain confidentiality with all student identities, case materials, training documents, and assessment data Maintain daily access to email and utilize communication platforms for scheduling, scoring, training (Zoom) and administrative updates. Demonstrate a strong commitment to healthcare education through exceptional punctuality and professional collaboration with students, faculty, and staff. Accept on-going constructive feedback regarding performance from the Simulated Patient Educator and Simulation Center Director and incorporating changes as needed Execute other reasonably related duties as assigned by the KHSU Simulation Team.
Education: High School Diploma Experience: Acting experience is a plus but not required. Prior experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or Educational Management Systems is preferred but not required. Core Competencies: Strong reading comprehension and ability to memorize and recollect script. Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency with basic technology, including email, online training platform (Zoom), and computerized surveys.
