The primary responsibility is ensuring the welfare and safety of all participants in and around the swimming pool through constant alertness and readiness to perform rescues and emergency care. This includes preventing accidents, maintaining required skills, adhering to policies, and performing prescribed daily pool maintenance duties.

Candidates must be at least 16 years old and possess required certifications in cpr/Pr, aed, o2, and first aid, although training may be provided by the y. Essential requirements include strong water skills, top physical fitness, the ability to perform rescues, clear communication, and a cooperative spirit demonstrating core ymca values.
