The Special Education Teacher provides therapeutic educational services to students who exhibit a variety of emotional, behavioral, neurological, and learning disabilities that impede their ability to function within a less restrictive classroom setting. The Special Education Teacher implements evidence-based curricula, maintains data-collection systems, and utilizes instruction-driven assessments to measure student progress. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for writing and implementing the Individualized Education Plan’s (IEPs) for each student in the classroom and provides mentorship to an Assistant Teacher. Special Education Teachers receive direct supervision by an educational coordinator, including formal and informal observations, weekly 1:1 meetings, and support with curriculum development. Essential duties
Develops and implements unit and lesson plans following the students’ IEP goals and objectives.
Utilizes Massachusetts Common Core State Standard (CCSS) Curriculum Frameworks to guide instruction appropriate to student grade, skill level and learning style, as outlined in students’ IEPs.

Collaborates with the classroom team to develop and implement classroom behavior management plans appropriately suited to the age and social/emotional levels of students.

Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s required. M.Ed. in Special Education, with certification in Moderate Special Needs for grades K-12.
Teaching Certification/Statement of Eligibility/or DOE Waiver is required.
Experience
• 1 year teaching in a school setting required or 3+ years of related experience with a similar population.
Training
First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint trainings is required or ability to participate in annual training at beginning of employment and annually or as needed throughout tenure.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
